First and foremost, welcome everyone to the NERDS forum! I am one of the administrators of these boards and I hope you all take full advantage of them and have fun sharing experiences.
I have always been a "nerd" for as long as I can remember. I was the little girl who preferred her toy T-Rex over Barbies, who, at just 3, sat on a cactus in California while fossil hunting with my parents and who would admirably brave the ice and cold to save tree limbs in the winter at the tender age of 5 - because when they broke I would get very sad. Spending a large part of my life growing up in North Carolina I was constantly outdoors. There were plenty of camping trips to enjoy, hours of beach combing to do in the summers and the ever present opportunity of exploring the woods; looking for arrowheads, shiny rocks and, of course, creepy crawly things to scare my little sister with. It was not until recently, however, when I reunited with Jeri and Kelli, the co-founders of this club, that I truly began my metamorphosis into a budding collector and die hard enthusiast.
Though I have only recently begun going on field trips and collecting this past summer - it has been more rewarding than I could have dreamed of and it is just the beginning!
I look forward to meeting everyone and hopefully seeing you all out there in the field.
